Isata Dauda Foday( Edge Left) |
I was shocked when informed about the death of our beloved sister, Isata Dauda Foday. I could not believe the unexpected news, so I had to make a phone call to confirm the authenticity of the message. The confirmation of her death made my day shattered and was not my true self. I spoke to her just the month before her death was announced. We were discussing about her pregnancy and family affairs. Little did I know that was our last conversation? Isata, are you really gone to the world of the dead? You had been a big tree in the family, the nation and the global society. A tree that is been cut pre-maturely and never to be replaced. This is a great reduction to our national income statistics. Isata.you had been our icon of love due to your academic strides (from bachelor’s degree to master’s degree) and the genuine affection shown to the family. Amid the fluid environment we were raised (a diamond town of Tongo Field, Kenema District, Sierra Leone, West Africa),you never allowed yourself to be influenced. You followed the gainsaying that, `learning is better than silver, Gold and diamond’. I knew our sister as one that is modest, focused, charming, productive, charitable and having a genuine heart for mankind. Isata, you are one amongst our sisters we are highly proud of. You left us when we needed you most. You had gone to the world of the dead due to the negligence of our health system in Sierra Leone. The problems in the health sector should be of immense concern by the current government. A healthy nation can enhance economic growth and development, and hence having a multiplier effect on national income. I wish the family would have sued the health centre responsible for the maternity ward negligence. Marie Stopes (Sierra Leone), stopping peoples’ lives. Isata. though the candle in the wind had finished flaming, your memories will never fade away. God willing, the family shall launch a health centre in your memory. May your soul rest in perfect peace. We pray that the Supreme Lord confer mercy and oipen the gate of heaven for you. Amen!
Prince Foday
